Thorpe Park and UCAS

February 22, 2008

Well, I took a trip to Thorpe Park today to see the park in a nearly ready state. Overall, it was fairly busy with quite high wait times mainly because the rides were running at low capacity and the fact that only 8 rides were actually ready for opening.

We got in quick and simple using our Annual Passes and found the Dirty Sanchez boys doing some filming at the main entrance to the park from the dome. After wandering past them we headed for Nemesis Inferno. Not a bad wait time, about 20-30 minutes which is average for NI as they had both trains running. I found it quite interesting that once at the top of NI you can see that the arena makes a perfect storage space for the Rapids boats, Safari Cars and the Rocky Express train.

After I got off grabbed this shot:

This was the last one I took and I still couldn’t get the timing right for my camera.

After this we headed for a spin on the teacups passing a drained Rumba Rapids on the way:

Got to the teacups to find a short queue as always:

We then headed for the Stealth area. Now, I must say that I will probably never get myself to go on it, maybe its the fact that I don’t want to be launched 205ft into the air thank you very much. Anyway, so sat for a bit and found the Dirty Sanchez boys filming again, this time with photographic proof:

Was going to ask for a picture, but I have no idea who each of the people are as I don’t watch Dirty Sanchez since its just a Welsh Jackass Ripoff. Its nowhere near as funny as Jackass.

Also attempted to get some shots of the Stealthness:

After this a trip to NI via X:/ was in order. Got to X:/ No Way Out and judged by the queue on the outside of the building that it really wasn’t worth it, so wandered onwards to Colossus whilst grabbing these shots:

Well, before I got to the queue, I knew I’d be waiting a while as they were only running 1 train. I think I might have queued between an hour and an hour and a half for it. Not usually worth it, but leaving the queue after 30 minutes wasn’t worth it either.

After Colossus, I declared that it was lunchtime. We headed back over to Burger King at CalAmity Cove as the Canada Creek one was closed, along with most of the area due to ground work for the upcoming Eurofighter. On the way back towards the Lost City again, nabbed some more shots:

It seems that the most effective shots of NI come from a distance with a train round a loop.

The JCBs are hard at work increasing the ground space for the upcoming Eurofighter. That little area has definately grown since my last trip in November for Thorpe Blast.

Lastly we headed towards the Lost City, which I rarely spend much time as I have no wish to go on these flat rides. I grabbed some pictures but forgot to take the all important photo of Rush still being reconstructed.

Also, I finalised my UCAS offers this morning. I accepted Computer Games Technology at Portsmouth as my Firm choice, Computer Science (Games) at Brighton as my Insurance and declined Computer Science at Portsmouth and Brighton and Computer Games Technology at Liverpool John Moores.
